Data Analysis for the Measurement of High Energy Cosmic Ray Electron/Positron Spectrum with Fermi-LAT
نویسنده
چکیده
The Large Area Telescope (LAT) instrument on board the Fermi satellite consists of a multilayer silicon-strip tracker interleaved with tungsten converters (TKR), followed by a CsI crystal hodoscopic calorimeter (CAL). Sixteen TKR and CAL modules are assembled in a 4×4 array. A segmented anticoincidence plastic scintillator (ACD) surrounds the TKRs. The primary cosmic-ray electron/positron energy spectrum has been measured from 20 GeV to 1 TeV using a dedicated event analysis that ensures efficient electron detection and reduced hadron contamination. Results from detailed Monte Carlo simulations have been used to reconstruct the observed energy spectrum to the primary cosmic ray spectrum. We present here details of the analysis procedure and the energy spectrum reconstruction.

On Possible Interpretations of the High Energy Electron-positron Spectrum Measured by the Fermi Large Area Telescope
The Fermi-LAT experiment recently reported high precision measurements of the spectrum of cosmic-ray electrons-plus-positrons (CRE) between 20 GeV and 1 TeV. The spectrum shows no prominent spectral features, and is significantly harder than that inferred from several previous experiments. We show that the interpretation of the reported data, especially when combined with other experimental res...
متن کاملIn-flight measurement of the absolute energy scale of the Fermi Large Area Telescope
The Large Area Telescope (LAT) on-board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope is a pair-conversion telescope designed to survey the gamma-ray sky from 20 MeV to several hundreds of GeV. In this energy band there are no astronomical sources with sufficiently well known and sharp spectral features to allow an absolute calibration of the LAT energy scale. However, the geomagnetic cutoff in the cosmi...
متن کاملInstrument simulation for the analysis of cosmic ray electron with the Fermi LAT
The Fermi LAT collaboration has built up a detailed Monte Carlo simulation to characterize the instrument response and tune its performance. The simulation code is built around the widely used GEANT4 toolkit and was carefully validated against beam test and flight data. This poster shows how the full LAT simulation is used to develop the event selection for the Cosmic-Ray Electron (CRE) analysi...
متن کامل− excesses and the knee of the cosmic rays — hints of cosmic rays acceleration at young supernova remnant
Supernova remnants have long been regarded as sources of the Galactic cosmic rays up to petaelectronvolts, but convincing evidence is still lack. Considering the ee pair production via interactions between high energy cosmic rays and background photons in an environment like the young supernova remnant, we explore the common origin of the subtle features of the cosmic rays spectra, such as the ...
متن کاملProbing Gravitino Dark Matter with PAMELA and Fermi
We analyse the cosmic-ray signatures of decaying gravitino dark matter in a modelindependent way based on an operator analysis. Thermal leptogenesis and universal boundary conditions at the GUT scale restrict the gravitino mass to be below 600 GeV. Electron and positron fluxes from gravitino decays, together with the standard GALPROP background, cannot explain both, the PAMELA positron fraction...
